The Writing Center’s mission is to coach undergraduate and graduate students in all stages of the writing process through collaborative, interactive, and individualized sessions. Our goal is to help students become more effective, confident, life-long writers through critical thinking, self-observation, and the application of sound writing principles and strategies.
We offer 40-minute online consultations that take the form of conversations on the topics the student would like to address: for example, brainstorming ideas, developing a thesis statement or research question, organizing or outlining a paper, determining appropriate forms of evidence or support for claims, avoiding plagiarism and citing sources, or strengthening writing at the sentence level.
PLEASE NOTE: Students who visit the Writing Center agree to: *Respect the tutorial staff and address them with courtesy in all modes of communication: voice, text, email. *Respect the tutorial process. *Be receptive to suggestions and strategies for working with the consultant. *Take responsibility for their own writing process and for what they turn in to their instructor. *Make every effort to cancel appointments that they cannot attend. (Students who miss more than two appointments in a course month without cancelling them may be prevented from making further appointments until the next course month.)
